Hello. I was just wondering if there were any records kept for the war years, as my father Donald Porter from Essex was conscripted to go down the mines, & he told me he was at Ogilvie colliery, he also told me that all the men walked up the hill from the village & put all their baccy & matches/lighters in little nooks & crannies in the stone wall on the left going up the hill & collected them on the way back down. What I am trying to find out is when he was actually there, probably between 1942-1945? The reason is, I have managed to find my half brother in Australia & we are trying to fill in the gaps as my Father is no longer with us, any help would be most appreciated.

There are a few photos and info on the Ogilvie Colliery,Deri,on the Welshcoalmines site.

Pm a Ifor Coogan,heworked at the Colliery,after your Father,but his Father also worked there,and he has a website about the Colliery and other local history.

He may be able to help you.
