I belong to a group researching the secret British Resistance Organisation known as Auxiliary Units. MOUNTFIELD had a small group of men trained to 'go into a hide' if the Germans had landed. They would come out at night to harass and delay the enemy.

Our records show that Sergeant Tommy Goodsell (Surface Manager) and Dick Godsell (Train Driver) both worked at the mine. Tommy was the Patrol leader.
I would like to hear from anyone who can tell me more. Especially where their hide (Operational Base) was located.

Thank you

Don't know where the Mountfield OB was but there are certainly instances of them being secreted in mines elsewhere. Several Sussex OBs are accessible but Mountfield isn't among the ones I know of.

John 🙂
I don't like the look of that woodwork.

Thank you John for responding.

Can you tell me the location of any OB's and which Mines were used by Aux Units.

I know of at least two locations on Mendip, both well published if you have the right literature!

Better to regret something you have done - than to regret something you have not done.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
