There are a substantial number of archive photos of the above here if anyone is interested.

Very fascinating site that carnkie. Also has an interesting forum. My grandfather worked at a coalmine at Rhondda during the 1st world war. Dont know which one. All I know is they lived at Cwm rd, Porth. I will have a go with some enquieries etc. see if anyone has any records.

I imagine there will be quite a few records just before that. The Welsh miners strike, Churchilll as Home Secretary, troops, riots in Tonypandy, etc.

Does anyone know if the steam winder from Ty Mawr colliery still exists?
It was built by a foundary a few hundred yards from where I'm sitting & untill I saw a photo of it a few years ago I didn't even realise there was an engine builder here (Kidsgrove Staffs). Neither did our "local historian".
It looked a loverly beam job, fluted columns, the works!
We inhabit an island made of coal, surrounded by a sea full of fish. How can we go wrong.......

I agree although Welsh mining isn't my field (what is I ask?). I've been looking at the site again, by no means comprehensively, and there is a lot of good stuff in there. Perhaps it could be added to our links. It brought back memories of that awful tregedy at Aberfan.
