hi - this year - there has beeen posts about 2 blockages // collapses - A cappelcleugh , B brownley

that would SEEM to prevent a safe attempt at the " great nent traverse " trip

have these been sorted - i realise that the place is in constant decay - and we shoulds always be prepared to turn back

but if its known that the trip is impassable - we dont want to waste time going to a known collapse - and retreat - we will just make alternate plans

thanks in advance

Caplecleugh has not been looked at yet.
The shale falls are bad - lots of large sections peeling down (but they are still passable, if you’re keen/certifiable.).
Reportedly there was limited airspace (3 or 4 inches.) along an arched section on Saturday due to backed up water, but this could have been the weather.
The party travelling through did take some pictures - I shall get them to post here.
No idea what Brownley is like - it’s been ages since I’ve been in there.
Would be keen to arrange/join a working party for either mine (but particularly Caplecleugh.).
Hope this helps.

Leif.

Well, if everyone who visited Nent spent just 5 minutes clearing some of the minor ankle-breakers out of the levels, it would make life so much easier for all, especially those who haul scaff and dig and clear the major falls and impasses. :flowers:

I agree Mark.

I have uploaded the most recent photos I have of the Caplecleugh shale falls to the Caplecleugh album.
They were taken in August.
Bear in mind the shale is worse now.
From what I gather, there’s a section of very fragile shale close to one of the dressed stone sections. When that does inevitably drop, its likely to block said stone archway.
Needs looking at sooner rather than later, to be fair.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
