The imagery is dated 08/2016 on Google earth.

If you look on the screenshot from the TV programme the pub is called "White Rose" but in real life its called the "Rheolau Arms".

Its open at the moment so it was probably closed and then "dressed" for the filming...?

Some proper detective work gone in here cant believe they found a location so far away to the others. Its only a few miles from where we stay when we visit South Wales

Unusual name...."rheolau" means "rules" in Welsh...no idea where that would have come from!

Looks like the film crew didn't have to do much the make the fuel station look grubby ! I presume the original " Craith" was all in welsh but the english version I found just right with the smattering of welsh with subtitles just enough as to not defer the non speaking welsh community into not viewing. Those of you that have seen both which one did you enjoy the most ?

Yes the original version and the one to be shown first on S4C and S4C on BBC iPlayer was in Welsh.

I have watched the two series in Welsh. I can't speak Welsh but it is a language I would like to learn and have a bit of vocabulary but it was easy to follow with subtitles.

Thanks for identifying that second garage as being in the south.

Personally though it has been made by the same production team I don't think Craith / Hidden has been quite as good as the previous Police series Y Gwyllt / Hinterland.

That had the edge and I liked the way the back story built up over three series over their creepy boss Superintendent Prosser. I always knew they would end up arresting him in the end.

The location photography was absolutely spot on around Ceredigion - Aberystwyth / Borth etc featured heavily. One episode was pretty good for railway enthusiasts as it centred around Borth Station and the station Museum.

Some of the rural locations were full of atmosphere I wonder if someone in the production crew was a bit of an urban explorer?

To be honest I would like to see a fourth series of Hinterland more than a third series of Craith.

Having just finished Hinterland, I would agree.
With the eye of the mine explorer, watch out for several of the rural scenes, often at chapels, that have what look like mine tips in the backdrop.

Filming information on locations used in Hinterland see

https://wyeview.com/news/hinterland-fliming-location-map-updated-series-3/

and

https://www.visitwales.com/things-do/attractions/tv-film-locations/hinterland-inside-guide-tv-shows-secret-locations

The obviously fake petrol station shown in series 2 is located a few miles to the east of Talybont on an old mine site. If you use Google Earth Street View there are clearly mining remains. Though I know the area to some extent I have not yet been to this location to check out the mine.

Location is: Lat: 52°28'21.58"N Long: 3°54'2.69"W

I tried copying and pasting the Google pin but the message frame rejected it.

Coflein web site shows it as Bwlchglas Mine

Thanks for link.

I wonder why they went to all the trouble of building a fake garage? It always appeared fake in the series as when did you last see a garage which didn't have hard standing around the pumps. The last thing one would want is to have spilt fuel soaking into the ground!

There are more than a few abandoned petrol stations around Wales which could have been used or perhaps just use a real one. Must have cost quite a bit of the production budget to build this as what I read it wasn't a high budget production.

Maybe so. 😉 Though if they were trying to save a few quid on location fees, Wales is not short of semi derelict chapels!

Fewer and fewer these days.

They are central to the drama’s plot if I recall, with saying any more a spoiler. 🙂

The Hinterland locations map isn't that accurate, as in the last series the Chapel they used was the one at Staylittle that had recently closed and is now being converted into a house.
A friend of ours was the last person married there!

It's quite an atmospheric setting - perhaps they couldn't find a real one set in the right environment.

Chris.
