Not really mining related but probably the best place to ask...

Driving through Nant Peris and looking on google earth I have noticed 2 massive tracks leading off into the glyders, anybody know their purpose?

Cheers,

Dan

You can follow google earth to what looks like a dump of black bags, along the way you can make out lengths of pipe.

No, they both are to the West of that. The Western most of the two even has a digger of some kind constructing what appears to be a new track. Further up that valley there is a break in the "new road". It restarts further up and there appears to be a construction site of some kind with what appear to be shipping containers.

The track with the digger has a fair length of black duct/pipe extending towards Marchlyn, where the track restarts further on there are a few lengths of similar Pipe. Small scale water power plant?

It would seem that three hydro electric schemes have been given permission to be constructed. Not sure any go anywhere near Marchlyn though, there is a summit or two in the way! Oh and another slightly larger scheme in the way too!!!

Nice one guys, can't argue with clean power, there's been a few hydro projects recently I'm sure one was just finished at Abergwyngregyn also.

The 'Snowdonia Society' are spitting feathers over these schemes, want people to politely write a letter objecting to these scemes.

I hope that's the one an old colleague of mine was involved with. It was a few years ago that I heard about it when it was first proposed as a community scheme, subscribed to and benefiting those living in the village. I'll look it up when I have more time, but it sounded an excellent idea.

The Abergwyngregyn scheme is in place. It is fairly unobtrusive. Most people pass the generator house on the way up to Aber falls after parking by the bridge. It's not that obvious what it is. The intake is some distance away on the Afon Anafon, downstream from the reservoir.

No doubt this is because Snowdonia is a pristine wilderness untouched by the hand of man. 😉
