hi Chris,
Thanks for posting this one up.
It brings back times when I lived close by to the pit.
If memory serves me correctly when it was closed, there was still a lot of coal left in the ground, but problems of subsidence, and closeness of houses, were some of the reasons for closure.
Another problem, which is difficult to understand now, is the shortage of actual miners!
In those days we actually had full employment and guys simply did not want a dirty job down the pit!
How times have changed!
