Just an idea guys

We are going to do a bit of work at the end of DE floor where it meets Cwm's Old Vein and to do that the water needs to go.

To make the water go we re have re-established the miners siphon down the nearby shaft to G and I'm pleased to report it works, having dropped the level by 4 foot last week as a quick test (it'll be full up again now).

Next week we hope to drop the intake clack valve into deeper water and ideally drop it to chamber floor level. This would allow the exploration of E floor Old Vein, for the first time in a very long time.

Before you get really excited bear in mind:

1) even if we drop the water to chamber-floor level at the DE link, it'll be deeper at the foot of the incline. I don't know if that means calf-depth or to the roof, and we won't until we try.

2) there are unlikely to be any amazing surviving artefacts given the 117 years of submersion

3) E floor in the Old Vein isn't actually that long. Nothing like the Back Veins E floor. But there would appear to be at least one chamber that could only be reached from E.

I can run the siphon with a view to having access to E floor, or at least some of it, for Thursday Night. If you fancy a look. It might not be all that amazing, but then I suppose anything new is a bit special, and you're welcome to be there for the first look if you like...

Well with an invite like that, how could we say no

I was in there on Monday and noticed you had it all set up, water level hadn't quite got back up to the drainage channel.

Not much happens without you noticing it eh?

Yeah it fills up again fast, so it's a small window and I'll have to time it the best I can.

Really what we need to do is get the clacker valve into the sump at the bottom of the OVI and leave it there. That way the whole lot can be got rid of in one easy go.

would require an investment in about 80m of 3" suction hose though, and many hands to get it down there.

Steel wire armoured suction hose, 3"x80m I can probably source but not by this Thursday. I have it but it is in Wrexham and I'd need the pickup to get it home. But it's do-able.

ATTENION ATTENTION MILES IS A GOON

:curse: :curse: :curse: :curse: :curse: :curse: :curse: :curse:

I'm so sorry. I've got my Thurdays mixed up. I don't mean the 26th at all! I mean the 2nd June.

What a pleb!

It can't be this Thursday (IE tomorrow) because to do that would have meant starting the siphon this morning, which I have not done.

I'm doing a charity zip line in Wrexham for the bank holiday, and was going to extend the suction pipe into deeper water and restart the siphon either late Tueday or early Wednesday, ready for Thursday Night...

Sorry...

Can you really get hold of this? That would be amazing. The current siphon pipe I've put in only reaches the easternmost chamber as I've no more pipe. Running to the shaft, and down it, swallowed up all my 80m.

If you're able to blag another 80 that would mean we can chase the water down the level all the way to the incline sump, and leave the clack valve in the sump.

That way, whenever anybody wants to clear the OV, they can get the siphon flowing and as it'll be sucking from the deepest point, all the water will go in one move.

Getting it down to DE is quite an operation. If you can blag a load of hose, it would be great to get some ANTN assistance to get it in position early next week?

The "hose fairies" are working on it as we speak πŸ˜‰

80m @6m = 14lengths = 84m total. Bauer connectors.

Can't visualise the arrangement off the top of my head.....could any of this be done with lay-flat? Its not easy but we have done a few where we initiate the syphon and then attach lay-flat to discharge? Just a thought....

Short story...

We tried to get the two 30m lengths down in one go. They we all rolled up and taped into neat coils, ideal for rolling.

Miles (at head of BVI): "Bit heavy this innit lads..."
Lads: all nod disapprovingly
Miles "Do you think we should just let it roll down the BVI?"
Lads: "dunno, should be alright?"
Miles: "Whats the worst that can happen?"
Lads: all look nervous and start shuffling foot to foot
Miles: "ahhh be reet!"

...Cue two huge rolls screaming down the BVI at terrifying speed, not stopping at all, smashing into everything sending shattered pipe fragments everywhere to the horror of all who witness it...
