Anglesey Mining said they need the global price of zine to start increasing to make the former copper mine viable.

They've been saying this for the last 20 odd years

"We will need to raise funds to update studies on Parys Mountain" or in other words "Can the Welsh Government spare a few pennies?" ::)
FILTH - Think this is a playground? Think again...

At the risk of being slanderous, or libelous, it's a scam. The only financially viable method of extraction is a drift mine from the Rhosybol side and they'll never get planning for that.
Best use it as a repository for spent nuclear fuel from Wylfa.....I seem to remember that is what the local rumour was when we were sinking the shaft in 1989.
BTW does anyone know what happened to the Cementation Mining sign off the top of the winding gear head frame? I went there one night to pinch it and someone had beaten me to it:curse:

In reply to the person who just sent me the PM...

1. Scam. My personal opinion after having worked there for 2 years in 1988-90 sinking the shaft and driving the roads and then seen sod all happen with it since....
2. Drift mine from Rhosybol. Its in the feasibility study.
3. Repository for nuclear waste. Local gossip at the time. Seeing as Cementation were contracted by Anglesey Mining to sink the 900' Morris Shaft, and we were contracted to carry out boreholes for NIREX at Windscale (Sellafield) at the same time, 2+2=5 😉 . The NIREX job was for a proposed repository, BTW.
4. Pinching the Cemo's sign. Yes I know it's theft but blimey!! Not as if they would miss a 10' x 2' bit of plastic. You should see what else I've got in my garage

Tongue in cheek all this, y'know 😉

Yeah. Check out the "Video Highlight: Shaft Sinking Then and Now" bit. Reaching up with a 4x2 to knock open the air valves on the Thor rock drills. Brilliant. Then hanging on the handles to get extra weight to speed up the shot hole. Even today you see two lads sitting on the drill to get it going and stop it rattling out of the hole! :o

 Sorry, reminiscing and going :offtopic:

was looking at them for work a while back, there now seems to be Cementation Civils (under Skanska), one of the Cross Rail contractors. Cementation Mining is the shaft sinking one, wouldnt be able to get a job with them unless I was Canadian/had a 'red seal' ticket, whatever that is!

Do the PUG still do trips into the shallower old man workings - had a trip years ago before the adit was cleared and the stopes drained, would love to go back

PUG meet every Wednesday evening at 6:30pm in the heritage trail car park at the side of the Amlwch - Rhosybol road. About 6:45, we open the gate and drive up to the top close to the caban and get changed ready to go u/g for 7.
If you hold BCA insurance, it will be a free trip, otherwise you will have to pay £10 to become a temporary member / cover insurance.
The standard trip in Parys, down to the 30ftm takes about 2-1/2 hrs. For more experienced, we may go down to the 45fm.
Then there's the adjacent Mona Mine - different feel and the balance bob and pump rods in Cairn's Shaft and the kibble or if you REALLY want it, the very wet through trip into Parys...
As Dave says, contact Lionel our access officer to arrange a date.

Thank you for the details - I am sure I will be in touch when I can get myself organised! The wet trip sounds good as it was flooded still when I was last there, think we met the water at some flooded steps?

Beware the water, it is very acid. Do not get it in your eyes. Gloves and rubber boots advised. Wash clothes afterwards before they rot.

We went swimming along a flooded adit to see an air door, permanently changed the colour of the fleece undersuit, and made my skin itchy
