Hi everybody,

Since months I'm searching for this Slate mine.
I believe it's located in North Wales.

If anybody could give me an advise or something, to find this beatiful place, I would really appreciate.

Thanks in Advance

I don't think it's the U.K.
I certainly do not remember that in Gaewern.

Gaewern is confusing. There are two parts to it; unconnected. One part links to Braich Goch, the other is a separate underground working accessed via a small pit; the cars are in here (tipped in via the pit).

Classic car fans have been known to spend ages pointing and naming them 😉

Hello everybody,

first of all, I want to thank you so much for the support.:):thumbup:
It's wonderful how a community supports each other.

Now I found this website from Kevin and Melissa and wondered if you maybe can tell me the exact place I have to go, I wrote an email but she didn't answer me yet.

Maybe someone is able to describe the access to the mine, or just how it looks.

I would be very disappointed arriving there and searching for hours.

Thanks for your support one more time and thanks in advance.

here's the website:

yes, I've seen that photo before and wondered where it was.

I'd always assumed just outside the entrance there was a blind bend with one of those brown tourist attraction signs saying 'Slate Mine Museum Car Park' or something similar - and a family living nearby with a penchant for leather masks and chainsaws......

So, is this kind of a joke?
I don't get it.

Possibly a poor one given the response :-[

Hi there Local87

Just about everything you need to know is on Gaewern's entry in the database:

http://www.aditnow.co.uk/Mines/Gaewern-Slate-Mine_1131/

There's a Google map there. The small pit and the entrance to this section of the workings is close to the first 180 degree bend in the track up from the A487.

The entrance is a tunnel to the right hand side of the small pit. The route down is obvious, and involves a bit of scrambling.

Not sure who owns the land, or whether the track up from the road is private. There used to be a chap who lived on the site, but I think he has left now.

My understanding is that the site is now leased by Ty’n y Berth Outdoor Centre and permission for access should be obtained from them.

I would guess Dave has some local knowledge that may not be published anywhere.

The outdoor centres website lists mine exploration as one of the activities on offer.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
