While reading up on the Diffwys wharf, Maentwrog and Tyddyn Isaf further down the Dwyryd then searching the "Port" category. Felinheli was the only one showing up (restricted to SH). That made me wonder... When populating the "type" was it intended that wharfs and Quays be lumped in with ports?

I suppose it's a bit like differentiating railways and tramways perhaps?

On Wilkinson's Gazetteer and Bibliography of the Mines and Quarries of North Wales (http://www.hendrecoed.org.uk/Wilkinson) I have a site category of "non-extractive sites" with a sub-category "slate quays".

As well as marine quays I've included slate transhipment yards where slate was transferred to transport for out of the area carriage in this sub-category. For example I've included Minffordd on the Ffestiniog Railway. I admit it's a somewhat arbitrary choice but it seemed reasonable to me.

Hi, in effect yes. Railways, factories and ports etc., were included so those that specifically served major mines or quarries could be added. Only a handful were ever added, and to avoid offering a bewilderingly long list of non-core classifications it was decided to keep the 'non-extractive' (good term btw) as short as possible.

Hope that makes sense of it!
