Richard Hill, the CCC training officer, has organised an SRT training course to take place on Saturday 14th March 2015 at Plas Y Brenin, Capel Curig.

The course will run from 10am till 5pm and will be free, but you need to bring food and drink for the day.

There are limited spaces as it is a small venue. Please bring all your own SRT kit plus helmets, although three CCC SRT kits available for the day.

Please book direct with Richard via email: [email protected]

Cheers,

Thanks for letting us know Dave. I was on one of the previous sessions in Bala a couple of years ago and found it extremely useful and fun so have asked for a place on this one too.

ISTR that BCA insurance was a requirement. Perhaps you could clarify this?
For anyone not already covered, the easiest way is to join the AditNow Mining History Society (linked from 'Information and Resources' above) which only costs a few quid.

Anyone else booked on this? (Just had confirmation of my place from Richard Hill.)

My reply took a week to arrive, so I guess he's been busy or has a life.

Just a mention to say that it was an excellent session and would much recommend it to anyone wanting someone to have a look at their techniques and point them in the right direction.

Many thanks to CCC for arranging it; and to Rich, Gethin and the other instructors for being so helpful and patient!

Now that you are an SRT wizard Mr V, are you planning on coming to Derbyshire?

I doubt anyone present today would use that description! 'Menace', perhaps..,

I second your commendation! It was indeed an excellent session. Hats off to all the instructors for devoting their time to the likes of us.

If there is not another CCC training coming up here are some options:

The Association of Caving Instructors website lists a few local CIC's. Gethin is your main man round here but possibly getting busy with other work this time of year.

Then there is me, local for half the month. Not listed in NW on previous link as I am based in the Peak District.

I'll have a chat to Richard, the CCC training officer and see if we can get one organised in North Wales. The one last year, before the CCC AGM, was disappointing from the point of view of attendance figures with a few people dropping out at the last moment. If we do run one this year we will probably charge a modest fee or refundable deposit, but the majority of the cost could come from the CCC training budget.

I'll try and get back to this thread in a week or so.

We've gained some new "Thursday Nighters" over the last couple of years who I'm sure would be interested.

Thanks for the prompt replies. I'm really keen to learn SRT this year, I've realised quite quickly to get to the more interesting places you need some rope skills.

As a side note are the thursday nighters open to anyone?

Thanks

Hi Dan,
We certainly are!
We do have the occasional trip where numbers need to be kept low, and the odd 'project' that's of more limited appeal. So where details haven't been posted up for a week, it'll be one of those. Tonight's such an example - you're more than welcome to join us at Cwmorthin at 6.15, but it won't be a proper exploring trip.

I'd be up for some SRT training. With 'retirement' due in about 6 weeks, I 'should' have a bit more free time so as to join in on a few more Thursday night frolics. Did I manage 2 last year? 😮 Totally dismal attendance! (Plus the Christmas Dinner in Caernarfon of course).

Got some SRT pitches in Parys & Mona that need a look at with my connections with PUG and certainly a lot more to see in Cwm (being a FoC and all that too) ;D

Dependant on dates I may be up for this 🙂

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
