Go Below launches underground zip adventure

This is why Miles has no time for the website!
(bless him.)

To busy thinking up whoppers like this I dare say:

Actually I'll give him credit, the parts he has used for this new route have been very seldom visited. There is some graffiti from the 30s up there though.

Sounds pretty awesome! People will be spoilt for choice in Blaenau this year, and it can only do the area good.
my orders are to sit here and watch the world go by

Having had a preview of the route and most of the wires, I have to say it is pretty good even for seasoned explorers.
I expect it will scare the sh*t out of some of the punters.
As has been said, Miles has been spending a lot of time and money on first class set-ups.
The free-fall device was not there on my last visit so I can't comment on that until next time. Sounds brown trouserish though....

I wonder if this is afiliated to the Zip-world at Bethesda and Blaenau?
Aparently a new underground Zip line course is being built at Llechwedd!

I got the best of both worlds. I watched Miles do it first then had my go!

We went and had a play on it a few weeks ago when it was mostly complete. Must say that it is well done and quite sympathetic to the environment that it is in....no issues really considering that Cwm is very busy anyway. Most of what has been done would be very easily reversed without leaving much trace. Not sure where the "70' free-fall" is though? Must have missed that bit.....
Being selfish though, there are plenty of mines where I would NOT like to see this kind of thing.....
The other main positive aspect to all of this is that it MUST be helping the town so in that way it's all for the good.

Agreed and what most people don't realise is that Cwm would most likely have been sealed up for good if it wasn't for Miles and his Go-Below business!

you might find the new map showing all the ziplines, traverses, absails and ladders useful.

Well done, and the very best of luck to Miles. I dont see why Zip World/Llechwedd/Antur Stiniog should monopolise the adventures to be had around Blaenau. Hopefully Mile's set up will appeal to the more adventurous folk instead of the illuminated "theme park" at Llechwedd. At least they both may bring much needed revenue and possibly employment to the area.

I don't think Miles is registered on here so I will pass on all the great comments and feedback from this thread.

It is worth drawing attention to the Goliath zip lower in Ch3W which goes from floor C to E. Information about Goliath can be found on Miles' anotated map in the link Ant89 posted.

This zip is so steep that if you rode it like a conventional zip it would result in a fatal impact at the bottom. ;(

120m of rope is needed to lower participants safely and under control to the bottom. There will be warning signs about Goliath at the top of it, and the official Go Below stance will be to request visitors to Cwmorthin not to use it. All Go Below trip leaders will receive specific training in it's use.

There is still some work to do on the course, and I think Miles is in there even as I write bashing away at the finishing touches.

Thanks again,

Just to add to what Chris says, you would make a nasty mess if you did this one free!
Note Chris preparing the braking rope.

Some photos of my son 'testing' it out before I went down.......

Highly impressive looking!

But how is Miles going to keep mine explorers off his kit?

Chris.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
