From North Wales Gazette 9th December 1813:
"And to add to our melancholy list of casualties, on Tuesday week, the same Gentleman also held an inquisition in the parish of Llanberris, on the body of Thomas Williams, a miner, a very industrious man, who in attempting to reach a copper mine at Glogwyn Coch, one of the highest rocks in Snowdonia, along a narrow path, which at that time was covered with ice, he unfortunately fell down a tremendous precipice of near 300 feet and was literally dashed to pieces".

Have you been reading "A Perilous Playground: Misadventures in Snowdonia and the Development of the Mountain Rescue Services 1805-1990s"?
That accident is one of many detailed in it. On a more positive note, it also highlights the fact that miners were often the first to help in rescues.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
