Hi all

Just a bit intrigued, whilst up in Blaenau, happened to take a look at the monument by the car park where all the various Welsh slate mines are listed... Has anyone else noticed that Moel Fferna is missing?! Anyone any idea why?! ::)

Seem to recall it wasn't so much a building slab provider, sourced more ornate/decorative works, but was still a slate mine, and a sizeable one... Didn't think it had another name, or did it? Otherwise, I'm guessing that the powers that be just forgot to add it...even though much smaller sites are included! 😞

🅱I seem to remember a quotation that the North Wales slate men described the southern "area" product as CARDBOARD.
Prehaps that's why! :sneaky: :smartass:

Isn't Moel Fferna that lesser Silurian stuff as opposed to the prime Cambrian and Ordovician stuff of Llanber and Ffestiniog respectivelly? Not that I'm a Periodist of course.

That may all be, but even as far south as the Corris slate quarries- Abercorris, Ratgoed etc, are all included, similarly Penarth, which is out the same way as Moel Fferna... So the listings don't seem to be biased in that way of slate type...does seem to be that poor MF was simply overlooked and forgotten!
