Search Mines, Am I missing a trick?

I usually try and find nearby sites if I am going somewhere, say for instance a campsite.

The way I usually do it is to go to search for mines in the Landranger grid square my location is in, pick a mine that sounds like it might be close, then in the page for that mine select the option to show nearby mines. If the mine I've picked is not actually close I then select the furthest mine in the direction of my site then repeat the process until I become as centred as possible on my location.

Is this in fact the best way of doing it or is there a way of searching for mines around a central point, grid ref or postcode etc.?

If searching on here, I usually know the grid region first, search say SK for the peaks, then choose the mineral. Problem is, it's limited if searching say lead mines, as there are too many to list via map.

In derbyshire i use the cave registry on the DCA site, brilliant tool, tap on the map where you are, and get a 5km radius of mines and caves, i have this downloaded to google earth so i have it everywhere. I do believe there is a similar feature by one of the welsh caving clubs too.
