I was at Hendre spar calcite mine yesterday 11/02/2014, and sadly it is flooding, my last visit there was 8 months ago, its sad to say the water level has raised by at least 45-60ft so now you can only get as far as the bottom of the 3 sets of ladders,

Aye, I don't suppose anybody other than a diver will see the lower level that dewatered about 3 years ago!

Was the reason for the dewatering ever ascertained?

Pumping in the nearby quarry I was told. Not sure if that is the case, but plausible enough I guess.

I'm fairly sure it's done this before, and we have had an exceptional amount of rain.

I am sure IanA will be along to let us know soon enough. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

It could be something as simple as a dry summer I can remember Holme Bank being the same a few years ago

Same in Noxon Park. A really dry summer a couple of years ago allowed access to stuff well below the normal water level. I haven't been anywhere near it this last month or two as I know it'll be really flooded

I only live a mile away from there so MIGHT pop in tonight and take some quick pics ..been along time since I've been down the ladders and I was fortunate enough to see the very bottom when it drained.. I believe it probably is the large volume if water we've had over the last few weeks that has raised it somewhat.

I was there a week ago and the water was at the top of the "slope" that takes you down to the level that drained (just about 1km I would say).

It has been that high many times before πŸ˜‰

It was fantastic to see the bottom level when it drained but would of loved to have seen it drain more and seen the next floor down. The level was very interesting and strange to see the incline they were driving although with the equipment in it showed how they were driving it.

the water level in that mine rises and falls - IMHO at random

people cite " pumping " - but the level rose in early 2013 [ jan ] - and then fell back again [ November ] - with no evidence of any pumping operations

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
