Walking my dog in these woods yesterday and there is a lot of very unnatural indentations in the ground does anybody know about any mining activity here ?

There are a load of adits/shafts (collapsed / filled etc), generally worked along the outcrops of few seams including Blackshale; Tupton; 3/4.

I've only been in the woods once, and as you say there are a load of earthworks and hollows; fairly difficult to interpret when I went. Some may be relating to adit features, others may be ground collapses/subsidence features. I think I took some photos, but not posted (uncertain features)

You're in the area of the tips for what we used to call Oakerthorpe Pit, there used to be a big active red shale tip around there, not been back for over 40 years though! 😢

You should see it now it is wonderful managed woodland area and in May when the bluebells are out it is particularly stunning :thumbsup:
