To be quite honest I do not know the name of this slate quarry. The map ref is OS 255 168454.
We originaly went there to see the long house by the quarry named Bwlch Y Garnedd where my great, great Grandparents lived in the early 1800's and where my great Grandfather was born. It was a farm in those days.
My great Grandfather worked at the Eglwyseg limestone quarries then worked at the slate quarries at Glyn Ceiriog where my Grandmother was born. They then moved to Fotty quarry in Blaenau Ffestiniog in 1879. Lived there until 1907.
I had 3 more great Grandparents, but that is another story 🙂 .
While in the area I had to have a look at the quarry adjacent to the house which surprisingly had quite a lot to show. Those tanks have got to be especialy made for a definite task which stirred my curiosity.
I also spoke to the farmer and landowner regarding. He said it was worked until 1947 by a man from the village. And a few years ago he took a man that used to work there up in his Land Rover. The man told him where the office, workshop and mill etc were.
There is quite a lot of worked slabs still left at site, but as Moel Fferna is of poor quality. Once it gets water and air it deteriorates very quickly 😞 .
Bellach dim ond swn y gwynt yn chwibian, lle bu gynt yr engan ar cynion yn tincian.
