Myself and a friend were in Caplecleugh on 27th December.
We shifted quite a bit of litter which had been left.
Most frustratingly was a Mars Bar wrapper stuffed behind a rock not far from the portal.
I'm a little lost as to how people go to the effort of carrying something into a mine, only to discard the much lighter leftovers.
Obviously they aren't believers in the "leave only footprints" ethos.

Takes the P doesn't it. The bad ground & deep water in there seems to act as a good enough idiot filter generally but it clearly isn't foolproof.

Its a bit disappointing that some folk (and I'm sure they're very much the minority.) can be so short sighted.

To get foolproof, you generally end up with a "lock all the things" attitude as seen in natural features on Mendip etc. I think the Mine exploration community are more mature about access than Cavers to be frank, and long may it stay that way. As you say, a lot of places, by the very nature of them, are good filters.

I know I shouldn't have to, but if its something like a sweet wrapper or empty bottle that can easily be removed I just generally stick it in my bag so its not there for the next person :flowers:

Quietly muttering? Not I!

My gripe this week are the person or persons who have left empty sardine et al tins all over the place. I have no problem with people eating stinky food just take your stinky rubbish home. :curse:
Usual threats as to where the rubbish will be placed if perpetrator(s) are identified apply.

No mention of the turd left in North Flats?

I may have possibly covered it. Its by the explosives case in a sort of alcove.

Don’t start smirking but we can all be taken short, discretion is the word, what’s wrong with burying the stuff, not much trouble there.
It made me good and mad when I found it.

A load of books was bequeathed to WMS who decided to auction them and, as it was put at time, split the money "between WMPT and Roy".
He actually meant CMT but it was the way it came out.
