This article mentions 'Dave Wilson Mining' being involved in a North Wales Slate mine in the late 70s, anyone know where it was ?

It sounds too late for it to have been Llechwedd as they opened in 1972.

It sounds reasonable for Gloddfa Ganol (Oakeley).

Of course, it could also have been Llanfair (south of Harlech) or Wynne (at Glynceiriog). Not sure what date either of those opened.

270,000 visitors in the first 8 months?

Unless North Wales happened to be situated in the centre of London in the seventies, those figures seem a touch unlikely.

Like most things touched by the hand of this chappy, a colossal amount of bullshat seems to be involved.

To be fair there used to be a lot of tourists to the area in the early 70's before package holidays etc became popular

Classic quote that "all the sheep in the area would be at risk from the excessive traffic". Good to see that the ovine interests were taken into account, if implausible. Even sheep must have some in-built preservatory functionality that could learn (in an evolutionary sense) that meddling with the excessive traffic would prove detrimental to their existence. Perhaps shouldn't post on return from pub, but there we are.
