Anyone know what the quarry dam that poses the risk is?

Nearest disused quarry (upstream) on OS maps is at SH704014

Edit: Another quarry at SH687017, a tributary of the main river.

Possibly this one from the various desriptions.

Interesting! All the media coverage is calling it a reservoir which does rather imply it's a mad-made dam, one of the fire and rescue guys interviewed did actually clarify it and make it clear it's a disused quarry.

The one in Morlock's map is Cwm Ebol I think and the most likely contender:

The aerial view of Cwm Ebol looks very similar to the photo on the BBC news web site (pic by Caroline Evans)

That's the one at SH687017, included in the list as the stream disappears UG for a fair distance.

The quarry in question is Cwm Ebol, about half a mile north of the village. The dam is not a true dam as such, more of a build up of water behind the tips so I understand. The environment agency are undertaking a "controlled" release of water at the moment, probably my neighbour with his swing shovel ! Lets hope its a success, already spent the day digging mud out of the shed.

Well looks like your neighbour did a good job - villagers are being allowed back home.

Looks like it produced slabs in 1888.

Good work all involved. Must be a huge relief to all the people from the village.

Hope the Taj Mahal in Mach hasn't been affected. A trip that way over wouldn't be the same without the thought of a visit afterwards! 😢

It looks like it's our turn in Cornwall now. They have just said on the local news that we could have 1 months rain in 24 hrs.
The met office have issued a YELLOW warning!.
I guess that means it really is going to P*** down!
