I hope someone here can clear up my fading memory.
After the 22nd September, 1934 disaster at the Gresford colliery the Dennis area was never re-opened.
I rember reading that the area was opened much later by another pit (Llay Main?)
Am I correct & are there any reports?
Or am I just dreaming. 😞

I hope this helps! Part 6 of the below link. "The legacy of the Gresford Colliery Disaster has been bitter. The establishment appeared to want to move on, while the bereaved wanted to ensure their loved ones were not forgotten. This was symbolised most strongly by the fact that the mining started again in the South-East section of Gresford Colliery in 1936. Every day that miners worked in the colliery until it closed in 1973." I grew up in Rosett and I remember the main lifting gear still being up.

The Dennis was never worked again after the disaster - not by Gresford nor by any neighbouring colliery.

Yep, I remember going past it on a weekly basis in the back of my dad's Austin Princess and being wowed by it.

A road was driven from Llay Main to Gresford & came out about half way down the second paddy road in the East Main. I believe that it was sealed back up immediately. The purpose was for it to be used in an emergency should the need ever arise. To the best of my knowledge this was the closest to the 'Dennis Deads' that Llay Main ever went.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
