Can anyone give me a description of how to find the entrance, it seems pretty overgrown judging by the satellite images and I note a few people have spent some time wondering around the forest before locating it.
I'm also interested in any history attached since there seems very little available and most of that concentrates on Wynne.

The surefire way in is a crawl through a pipe. The open chamber can be quite overgrown and impassable at times.

Can't help on the access 'cos I've never visited either :(

But if you're after history of the place, do you have Slates from Glyn Ceiriog? It covers Wynne and Cambrian with historical stuff, old photos, current photos and plans. I'll dig out a web link for you if you've not got it.

In all honesty, it's somewhere you need to be shown, as it involves wandering through some undergrowth, and over streams. It's not somewhere you can pinpoint on a satellite photo. There are a few of us that can show you exactly where it is.

Thanks very much for the heads up on the book.
I'm heading up this weekend so I'll probably just have to have a scour about. I've read a trip report and looked at the photos available so I'll just have to spend some times searching.

The largest quarry (most Westerly) is marked on the 1:25,000 OS map so I'll start around there.

Cambrian is very easy to find. Park where the footpath meets the road (space for one car) http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm?lat=52.93413848770412&lon=-3.2124875168091704&gz=17&oz=9>=1 centered on the map. Just after where the path turns left by the remains of a stone building go left again off the path & you will find the very steep enterance down. Have a good trip.

Unfortunately its out of print, spoke to the author he has not intention reprinting

Regards access to Cambrian, its quite easy park by the locked gate and walk along the track there are a couple of side quarries but ignore those, past the large quarry which has the base of the reservoir and then go down the incline into the next quarry. The Shropshire Mining Club in its early days rescued a winch and tried to move the Cylinder up the incline and failed.

From there you work it out the stream runs out to the pipe previously mentioned or up stream into the top quarry where you willsee the stream and the letter box slot beneath it

Hopefully we will have the Pipe pinpointed by GPS towards the end of the month.

Interesting piece on Cambrian (Glyn Ceriog) tonight on BBC's One Show - diving to the lower chambers. They didn't say where it was but the divers posing next to the huge riveted air receiver gave the game away to us in the know...

Brilliant bit of video footage - some really interesting artefacts down there:- Steam winder, wagons, rails but perhaps the most poignant, the former miners' signatures on the slate walls written with the sooty flames of their carbide cap lamps.

It may be available on i-Player, worth a look.
