One of Graham's pics from the 70s appeared on the random pic on the home page:

I'm staggered how little of the mills remains: presumably they were demolished rather than allowed to fall down?

One can't help but wonder about the future of other such buildings, Maenofferen in particular being an example of somwehere which may not have long for this world...

The roof beams were removed and taken to Gloddfa Ganol/FSCo. - some were used to re-roof Holland's lower mill to enable it to be used as the NG Museum and also for production.

I presume the walls were somewhat bashed in the proceedings and since then time has taken its toll.

Ah, thank you!

That does beg another question, of course...

Presumably the beams must have been of a similar (if not identical) span?

Does that imply common design; standard design; or just luck?

Aw now.... I don't know how much (if any) Wil's crew sawed off the ends to make them fit.... I've got a photo somewhere - but can't find it at the moment. After the fire at the slab mill, I can't remember if the "spare" beams were used for the slab mill extension or not (the new Slab mill was an "Atcost" building.

Cheers

Comparison of the mill today with Graham's photos is eloquent testimony to the catastrophic effects of rain and frost on exposed wall-tops once a roof is removed or becomes seriously damaged.
