Is the fab work of 'Corin' over on M.E.
It is work-in-progress, it's producing a small amount of power although the control of that power is proving a little tricky but Corin is close to having a solution. It's just a bit of fun and keeps him off the streets. 😉

Looks great though and makes a wonderful sound while it chuffs away on it's own.

I think I recognise the location - is it around (E on C floor in the Old Vein?

When was it installed? I didn't see it on the 'standard' round trip last summer when I was last in Cwmorthin. Trouble is, the potential surprise I would have from seeing the LEDs on my next trip has been spoiled!

I was down there a couple of w/es ago. It was my 1st visit to Cwmorthin. On the walk up my friend & I met the chap who'd installed it. A very well spoken gent who offered advice to us on where to go in the mine. A thoroughly helpful bloke (You know who you are. Thanks for the info. I'm one of the two daft brummies you met on Feb 1st.) He told us about his wheel but said we'd probably not see it on our 1st trip down. He even told us what it does. Anyone else know? I'd rather not post on an open forum 'cause I don't know how common the knowledge is. A completely pointless, utterly bonkers project for which the chap should be solidly applauded.

Is it just me or can anyone else hear a tune from the wheel?

Morning, thanks for the positives -appreciated. Speedycaver and I have been working on the wheel for 15 months. It is 24 ins across, drives a set of frictionless bicycle lights (disco ones) and a standard bicycle dynamo.

The standard dynamo gives 1.2 ac at @30 rpm. This is transformed up to 35 v ac; sent to the chamber and converted to 6-7 v ac, then rectified, smoothed and limited. This maintains a small lead acid battery, the battery drives the lights in the ceiling off the big 3-phase switch. This should trickle charge the battery.

It is intended to be a self-sustaining system, giving parties a bit of light when they have lunch.

The whole chat about overshot, breast fed and undershot has been missed out as have a raft of other issues.

The learning curve has been steep and continuous. If you want more detail - please get in touch.

Nigel - glad you had a good time.

Welcome Corin :)

I had the pleasure of eating my dinner under the lights in the compressor chamber late on last Thursday night.

It's a marvellous piece of work and a credit to you and Speedy

Simon - That's good news, I left the CChamber on Sunday 14/2. The lights were flickering - showing the battery was giving under 6 volts. With your notes on Thursday 18/2 - the battery is recharged. It took 4 days - neat.

All on it's own 😮 . It has taken some time.
