It's ongoing.

Last time I was there (a few weeks ago) there was burnt remains of cable everywhere. The B8 incline head seemed to be getting attention from the scrap metal thieves.

What is the latest thing to get wrecked?

Someone must know who is behind this theft & destruction, it's so obvious a route up to the mill and I assume the culprits have made off with a fair amount of copper etc, weight wise that they must have used a vehicle of sorts, they must have been seen surley??
The management thanks you for your co operation.

Personally I feel the prime suspects are Greaves. Especially given what they did to the Robey Incline winder.
I believe Maenofferen buildings are listed(?) but I doubt that will stop them.
Nobody can haul that volume of scrap out without somebody knowing about it and giving the nod.
Lets be honest, systematic scrap scavenging can generate a lot of money.

Last weekend up there, AC/DC converters ripped apart, as well as BV incline motor.

Don’t think Greeves as they have dumped rocks in the track to stop vehicles.

Evidence of use of tracked vehicle underground, they used old doors etc to get it over the boulder in the entrance to the connecting tunnel. Track marks on the Back Vein Incline.

Fan motor as yet not attacked.

this has been going on since late last year. Several locals told me "....i see van loads of blokes going up every day...." back in Feb.

Seems to be happening all over the country. Scrap must have gone up in price again. heard a rumour that someone got fried nicking cable somewhere in the midlands.

I have stuck some photo's up on the relevant archive bit ,same as i have posted over on "ME" from my visit last weekend ..........

i hope that is ok ???

Very distressing stuff ,things have changed a lot since i was last up there ,and not many of the changes seem to be due to natural degradation .......... 😠

apologies if i have posted them in the wrong place

wel, for the record it, Greaves have not been scraping maenofferen, it has all been down to thiefs (which is a pitty, for the thieves have gained quite a profit from this, the worth beeing in the thousands). the police have been involved, but havent been all that bothered.
The thiefs also started to take the overhead 11kv manweb powerline that used to supply maenofferen. pitty it wasn't live at the time.

Fair comment Dylan.
If you say it isn't Greaves then I'll take your word for it.
