In the dim and distant past (30 years ago) I was on holiday in Cumbria near Penrith with some friends. I can remember trying to go down an adit near a stream only to find it was blocked after some 10 -20 yards. All I can remember is that upstream of the adit was a waterfall which you could walk behind. The road crossed over the top of the waterfall and we abseiled down from beside the bridge for a bit of fun. From what I remember this would have been to the east of the M6 and the valley was relatively narrow. The adit was within 20 yards or so of the stream.

I realise this is pretty vague but does anyone have an idea where this might be?

Sounds like Ashgill Bridge at NY 759405 a few miles SE of Alston.

Yes, I'll have it - what is it?

Thanks. Yes you are probably right, having had a look on Google Streetview.
