According to the Caernarfon & Denbigh Herald preparation began at Dinorwig last week for the remake of the 1981 movie Clash of the Titans. http://www.caernarfonherald.co.uk/caernarfon-county-news/local-caernarfon-news/2009/06/18/clash-of-the-titans-to-be-filmed-at-llanberis-quarry-88817-23910752/

It seems that a number of footpaths through the quarry are to be temporarily closed for a month from 29th June.

Thanks Dave!

Quote:

"The order to temporarily close the stretch of footpath from Allt Ddu to Nant Peris together with branches connecting to it from the boundary of First Hydro land will come into effect from 29 June, and it is expected that the footpaths will be re-opened to the public within a month."

Unless I'm somewhat mistaken, that means the entire quarry, pretty much?

That's going to inconvenience a lot of people, climbers particularly...

Was up there today and there's an awful lot of activity.

Security guards counting people in and out, loads of portakabins, cranes, massive amounts of dolly (?) track etc. Vehicles buzzing around.

It'll be closed all the way from bus stop quarry to Nant Peris to all walkers and climbers, and presumably anybody else.

Will post a couple of pics shortly.

Things happening at Dinorwic in preparation for filming scenes for Clash of the Titans from June 29th onwards:

I didn't take any around the mills, I doubt they'd have minded though, portakabins everywhere labelled SFX and Medical 😮

If that is where I think it is, it must be very close to where they filmed 'Willow'.
Been injured while at work and are not to blame?

Looks like 'Dali's Hole' is on the left of those pics?

Looking closely at this photo and picking up on the H & S thread. It would appear that the stage crew are allowed to break their necks on/in the "rubble" of stage scaffolding but are prohibited from entering the slate hut for a crafty leak

It would be nice to think that the shelter has been taped off to preserve it.

Was up today, and they've built a stairway down to the pit shown in the picture with the powder hut. The security bods are pretty friendly - probably bored s***less. According to council footpath notices, they are cancelling access from Jun 29th for up to 6months, although they envisage it being 4 weeks.

I've created an album at this http://www.aditnow.co.uk/album/Twll-Mawr/  - please feel free to use this for uploading any images.

A couple of photographs from a rather wet Dinorwig today.

Dali's Hole, fenced off and with a stairway built down into it:

Allt Ddu mills, with portakabins and containers:

It appears that filming will take place in a number of places, including the bottom of Dali's Hole (currently under about 4' of water!), in the quarry on either side of 'Watford Gap' (pic below) and in the lower part of the quarry to the west of the power station where there's a large outcropping rock which has been left by quarrying.

Apparently it's been taped off due to the contents - people taking 'crafty leaks' - and worse!

I was impressed by one of the containers being labelled as SFX. What special effects can be perpetrated from a container will presumably become clear when the film is out....

..also triggering a wikipedia lookup was 'water bowser' which is apparently a water dispenser.

Just for the record, it seems that the security guards are now keeping people away from their 'sets', which has already caused a few climbers to get a bit huffy at being kept away from their pitches.

The security guards seem very helpful, but are starting to enforce a position that they're happy with people walking along the path, but not to stray from it.

Whilst this may cause some interference to mining historians in the next few weeks, hopefully things will be back to normal soon after.

However, there have been some suggestions in the climbing world that First Hydro may be looking to enforce access restrictions in future...

To change tack slightly and possibly move completely off-topic, I hope the makers of the new film show due respect to Ray Harryhausen with their special effects and don't just settle for the typically bland computer generated effects that predominate these days.

Up there today and they now have signs issued by the council saying that access is prohibited and denied to the public up until mid August for safety reasons - accidently continued up beyond to find a load of trucks and cabins placed all about the road as well as a load of people stood out in the pouring rain just talking or something. (went straight up the haulage track from Parc Padarn car park)

Proof that it's not just walkers, climbers and people wanting to explore the quarry from a quarrying / mining history perpective that have got the hump that Dinorwic is off limits for 6 weeks...

According to the Daily Post last week, main filming is about to begin, with it likely to take 10 days - presumably that's weather dependent, so it may be fair to assume they'll still be trying in September! 😮

They started shooting Monday, July 20th.

Filming at Dinorwig will come to an end tomorrow, July 29th.

Scenes on Anglesey have also been completed.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
