Back in the nineties we made a number of video films around the mines of North Wales.
One is a 20 mins dvd of the Cwmorthin pelton wheel that worked the generator. Made approx 1995 with Ed having a chat with the late R.E.Jones which owned the site. His wife ownes the garden area now. Basicaly the film shows him talking about how he went about restoring the old turbine. And he demonstrates the operating of the system, opening the water valves and the turbine starting up, gaining speed and shows the generator working etc.
We want to upload the dvd onto youtube so that whoever wants to see it can do so. But I do not know how to upload a dvd onto youtube.
Can anyone please tell me how I go about doing it. I have uploaded video clips (media player) many times successfully, but I don't seem to get anywhere when trying to upload a dvd.

If you don't want it doing in a rush, like yesterday. Then I may be able to help.

This is the type of quality I aspire to when doing web videos
http://www.kap.toadstone.com/lafarge/

I far as I can tell its all down to the getting the best quality against file size to present to YouTube otherwise you get awful results.

Useless of course there is someone on the forum who has experience of doing so. In the mean time I'll check it all out for you later today. I'm off out today,

Pete.

PS I've just had a quick look before SWMBO sails into sight. It all looks very easy. Another thought how about creating an AditNow account so people can load stuff via the site or is there no mileage in that?

I think that's a splendid idea  An AditNow Youtube account would be a great way of correlating video clips, and I could then link them them from the videos page http://www.aditnow.co.uk/videos/mining-videos.aspx so they could be found in two ways.

What would be the best way? One of us sign up for the account and give details to anybody who wanted to upload a relevant video?

I have an youtube account and have put on a few video clips, for example -

But I am unable to upload a dvd disc as I have tried a couple of times with no success. That is why I am asking if anyone else has done it. Perhaps if I contact youtube they could tell me how to go about it.
Simon you are welcome to do something with part of the film if you wish.

you would first need to rip the dvd into mpeg format. Then it could be uploaded to Utube with no problem.

As far as I can see you create a Group. You decide the name which then becomes part of the web address on YouTube. There are levels of access. The categories are restricting, I'm not sure which one AditNow would fall into. There is also a facility to decide who loads the video.

This is what i found on the youtube help -

Transferring from DVD to YouTube

DVD files (such as .VOB, .IFO and .BUP files) can't be uploaded to YouTube. These are not actual video files but files used as part of the DVD container format. Our recommended file format is MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid or SVQ3, rather than h.264) at 640 x 480 resolution, with MP3 audio (64 k mono).

The master tape is an 8mm with an annalogue camera , so not sure what to do now. Will have a word with Ed.

hymac580c, if you can let me have the DVD or a copy I can convert that to the required file format.

google for handbrake.
This will extract the video as MPEG (it is already mpeg but with extra stuff too).
You can then upload it to you tube.
Handbake is very good for this kind of thing.

Thanks Toadstone, I think that would be a good idea. I will have a word with Ed so as to make a copy and I will get back to you.

As per Toadstone's suggestion several messages up in this thread, an AditNow YouTube channel created now... I'll explain further in a separate thread since this one deals mainly with video format conversion issues.

The Cwmorthin dvd should be on line sometime next week. We have edited and saved the best parts and it is in the proccess of being converted to the right format in 3 parts. Two of the turbine working, and one of Robin doing some work in the Cwmorthin garden.
I am certain you will really enjoy it.

Part one is now there for you to see -

Thanks to Toadstone for converting to dvd for me. I will upload the other two by the weekend. Trouble is I have to share this computer and have to wait for my turn.
Enjoy the film
