Yes. A well-respected website, as this is, should be.

I`m just checking out if the authors are of the past tense. !!!!

It certinly isn't only dependent on the demise of the writer!

A work can go out of copyright while the author is still alive, if he was youngish when he wrote it and lives well into his old age.

As I said earlier, the relative dates changed a few years back, so it depends when a work was written as to which period of time is applicable.

To reinforce my last post, Aditnow goes to the trouble of 'watermarking' our photos with a copyright mark, which demonstrates a commitment to doing things properly.

The effective date when the "old system" became superceded by the "new System" was 1st August 1989 I believe.

And it is retrospective, is it?

No, if something was published before that date the old rules apply, if published after, the new rules apply.

I will leave someone else to search out the other thread that goes into it in great detail.

I only offered these "books" to allow interested parties to read or do as they wish with them, I didnt intend it to become a thread of who`s right and who`s wrong with copyright, if this is the case then maybe my information should not be offered, it was offered honestly and in a friendly way to other like minded people to advance their knowledge of that area, a re-think is in the making.

In respect of these books I would have thought copyright was out of date anyway! As you say, it was irrelevent.

Who's moaning?

I'll be moaning shortly! Well, grumbling perhaps....

If anyone is concerned with any material that has been uploaded to the site, then please send a PM to an administrator or an email to [email protected] and we will look into that specific case.

I suspect that in this specific case, the book is indeed out of copyright and that copying will not be an issue (the 'old' rules would apply). I, for one, would be interested in seeing a copy!

What may be more of an issue is a PDF file that might end up at perhaps 30Mb and on that basis it might be better if it was transferred between people on a CD rather than via the site. I'll check with SimonRL and report back.

And gents... if you could refrain from labeling legitimate concerns as moaning, that would be appreciated :flowers:

30mb isn't that much 🙂 If material is definitely out of copyright, or has the explicit permission of the copyright holder, and is of interest to members then it is very welcome on here, and thanks to those who contribute it.

Thanks minerat,.

The mining document library is growing into an excellent resource and contributions are much appreciated.

But to echo what Vanoord has said, if anything is there that falls foul of any copyright rules all that needs doing is an email to the info@ address or PM to an admin. It does happen from time to time, and it's often resolvable.

On this subject I have a PDF copy of "The Kent Coalfield-its Evolution and Development" by A.E. Ritchie. Definately out of copyright. It's about 30mb so I'll upload it if anyone is interested, It is slightly specialised I suppose.
