Hi There

I have done this through route twice but between the last times I did it there had been a massive collapse on the exit section. DOes anyone know if there has been any major changes in the last 3 or 4 years?

Many thanks

There's been a collapse on the section after the second abseil, which now requires a pulley to cross the zipwire and a boat, but there's not been much newly collapsed at the Rhosydd end in the last couple of years?

thanks for that...

I first did this about 7 or 8 years ago then again about 2 or 3 years ago, and maybe i am wrong but seem to remember one of the higher tunnels on the exit section (after you go through the bricked up tunnel) had slid away.

Just to add to Vanoord's post; the collapse just after the 2nd abseil was (IIRC) about 10 years ago, and the route now deviates over this flooded chamber via zip wire:

It then used to cross a second flooded chamber over a funky ladder bridge:

But that's gone now, taken out by a block of ceiling landing on it. It's now a short boat trip. Or a swim ;)

It then joins the old route.

On the exit side, I'm not aware of significant changes at the Croesor end in the past couple of years, short of seeing one block of ceiling come down about 2 years back. But then I only did it for the first time in summer '06 so don't know much about that end of the trip before then.

cheers for the info.....went in yesterday morning with a couple of mates ....and knackered my new work car driving up the track.

Managed it in just under 6 hours (we're all climbers so not really much caving experience between us, but at home with the ropework). and all the techincal sections seem to get safer every time.

Thanks again

Was speaking to a chap on Saturday and I think there's a knot pass on the second abseil now?

Have just read 'Knowns' entertaining trip report on UKC
http://ukcaving.com/board/index.php/topic,6475.0.html

Looks like the knot pass is on the first abseil...
Worth noting for future trips and do some 'knot passing' practice :ohmygod:

Cracking trip report by Known there

I'd got my wires crossed though, and thought the knot pass was on the 2nd abseil, which is the new rope. Thanks for the link Steve, and clearing up that it's actually on the 1st abseil!

Given the amount of traffic this route gets, and the fact that a lot of people probably have never done a knot pass, the fact that it's there needs to be spread so nobody gets caught out.

*sigh*

I can see myself donating some of the rope that's in my garden shed, not to mention a set of rubber conveyor belt and some interesting means of keeping it in place.

Wonder why wants a trip through the CRTT in the next couple of months?

Rightho people - what date would you like?! :)

Probably from the start of July onwards, but Simon is away at some point and we're in Cwmorthin on July 12th.

What's convenient for everyone?

Croesor to Rhosydd is one trip I have not done and would like to do it. So if there is a trip going I would like to come along if I may.

Could anyone interested please reply with which of these dates are suitable for them. Given the distance that, eg Sparty has to travel, it may be worth making a weekend of it?

Saturday July 5th
Sunday July 6th

Sunday July 13th
(could be combined with the Cwmorthin trip the day before, albeit SimonRL is away 😞 )

Saturday July 19th
Sunday July 20th

Saturday July 26th
Sunday July 27th

I'll be coming from Cardiff but will probably do just the CRTT and head back the same day.

All dates are fine by me.

Cheers

My thoughts were to explore Rhosydd and meet people coming across CoH
