Hi
My fathers family comes from Blaenau FFestiniog and owned a house in the Manod area. Does anyone know if a John Roberts Arthur was connected with the Manod slate quarry back inthe late 1800s early 1900s.

Hi there was an Arthur (surname) Familly that lived at Bryn Eirian (or Bryn Eilian) which is quite a large house in Manod rd. The last of the familly to my knowlage died in the mid i960's I remember he was called Mr Arthur and he had a huge collection of old books. And there is a gravestone of the Arthur familly at Betheda cemetry, Manod rd. I am not certain their exact connection with the quarries were but possibly Graig Ddu (pre 1945) or Bwlch (Manod).

I am doing my family tree. My grandmother was an Arthur and lived in Bryn Eirian Manod and always lived in Blaenau. Her son, my dad, lived in Bristol. Her husband, my grandfather was from Trawsfynydd. I can trace that family back in Trawsfynydd to 1800s. John Roberts Arthur was a "general merchant" in Blaenau but everyone says he made is money in the slate mines.

I will try to get some more information for you from an older generation and I will let you know how I get on. Bryn Eirian was only a few doors down from where I used to live as a child in the 1960's.
