Is this the incline that came out in the chamber which has now been covered and contains the Caban on the Miner's Tramway? I think I vaguely remember the time you could see the bottom of it on the tour. The rockman display used to be in another chamber off to the left.

I think I also remember the incline from the MT chamber. Why did they cover it?

Patience - I'll upload that view in a mo.... but no, I don't know why they covered it - apart from the fact that they may have been worried about their large scale untopping etc. work above it sending rocks down into the opening.

The map is the territory - especially in chain scale.

I know lots of people have been disappointed after seeing daylight shining out from the cracks in the false ceiling!

I doubt that the timber and plywood construction would stop much!

I agree.
I think I read on an ME forum that it was because Greaves wanted the chamber to look like it had no connection the surface (going up) - so just decided to put some wood there and pretend it was part of the chamber wall.

That kind of makes sense and I don't blame them. Chough's has daylight streaming in though with no attempt to conceal it.

A great collection of photos Graham. It is just a shame so much has now gone.

Thinking on that a bit more, I wonder why they didn't just re-vamp the chamber they had been using before? Seems a lot of work just for a couple of wagons and dummies when they already had the chamber next door in use for a similar display.

With a sound understanding of how to run a business, (quarry tours) Llechwedd would be a fantastic place I.E. not just leaving a 30 odd year old display to continue to hopefully attract people.
In the 70's and 80's there were 4 hour que's to ride on the tramway. Has the penny not dropped yet that the public might want to see something different? So get some artefacts in the right places for a start because lets face it, there isn't much to see on the tour. :curse:

I understand Llechwedd have now appointed a new manager for QT. A position that has been unfilled for a couple of years or more. Maybe things will improve.
