Duplicated from Dark Places with the permission of the original poster (for those who haven't seen it there)

Despite saying that he was collecting a sample for his own collection, 'tinminer49er' has placed a posting on ebay. This item is property of Anglesey Mining PLC, and they are about to be informed. ebay item number- 300161483432, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Melanterite-Pisanite-from-Parys-Mountain-Anglesey-UK_W0QQitemZ300161483432QQihZ020QQcategoryZ3220QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

As one of the guides that accompanied this person can I just say that he will never be welcome to the mine again, and I hope nobody in their right minds allows him within a mile of their property.

We generally don't mind if someone wants a small sample for a personal collection, but taking samples for commercial purposes by deception is entirely different.

Simon,

Just for clarification, is that the same "Tin Miner" as registered on here as such?

I certainly don't think so, and hope there wasn't any implication that it is.

Perhaps he'd like to confirm?

It would appear the same question has been asked, and answered, on DP. No it isn't THAT Tin Miner! Phew!

I note also that the auction has been terminated. Must have been something somone said.

I know the person that was selling the sample on Ebay. I asked him to take it down to save anymore problems arising. From my understanding the person who was selling that specimen purchased it many years ago from a private collector. He is a member of the Royal Geological Society and Russell Society, and basically he had the right to sell that specimen he had purchased in good faith.

Why couldn't the person who started the thread on DP send me a PM asking if it was me? instead of opening a can of worms? I haven't even received an apology, or PM from him, after I had sent him one stating that it wasn't me. Yes, I do use Ebay, but my user name is "Dartmoor Chris" and has bee since 2002.

There are some highly-strung people out there, and to start a thread like the one on DP without getting the facts straight must surely state something!

Regards Tin Miner

Thank you for clearing that up Tin Miner.

I don't think the original poster was actually suggesting it was you, the username similarity was just a co-incidence. But I quite agree, it isn't nice to think that somebody is having a go at you publically on a forum, but at least on this occassion you can be assured they weren't.

Incidentally the post was duplcated here in good faith, on the understanding that the specimen shouldn't have been offered for sale.

Thank you TinMiner, for that clarification.

[mod]Thread locked. We'll leave it here for the moment, so that everyone is clear 'this' TinMiner is not the 'other' TinMiner.[/mod]
