Hi,

This is the first time I've posted so please bare with me if I get it wrong !

First I've got to say how wonderful the photos are of the underground workings. With the lighting you add to them we can see the mines as the worker' never could. It makes it all the more amazing what they did.

The reason for searching out and joining your group is that we have just bought a miner's cottage in Dolwyddelen and the row is sited only a few yards from one of the spoil heaps. It's all been landscaped now so finding anything worth photographing is nigh on impossible. But with the winter coming things may be clearer and I would like to be able to add something to the library (though they will only be from above ground !)

The real reason I'm here is to ask if any of you have ANY information about this quarry/mine. All I can find is conflicting dates on the web. I will be exploring the area a lot more in the near future and will ask your advice on anything I find.

Hi Shaun

Prince Llewelyn was one of the quarries in the Lledr investigated by the Industrial Archaeology Summer School at Plas Tanybwlch, back about 1988 (from memory). Unfortunately it wasn't one of the courses I attended, spending only a day with them at the time. However, I'll see if I can find any notes I made and pass the info on.

"The Slate Regions of North and Mid Wales" by Alun John Richards (published by Garreg Gwalch in Llanrwst) says a bit about it. It is priced at £7.50 and lists probably every slate quarry/mine around here and is well worth it in my opinion.
