I am researching my family history. My GG Grandfather was a miner in Cannock, Staffs (1901 census and earlier) but by 1911 he had moved to Denton and was living in Howard Lane and was still a coal hewer ( aged 68)
Does anyone have any idea why a miner would move from Staffordshire to Denton ? The Staffordshire mines were still thriving so was there a general call for more labour from Denton between say 1900 to 1910 ? Any info or thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi, the mines in Denton and Bredbury closed in the 1930 s. Ellis pit shaft was still open in 1973.
