I think this is floor 2 slate stacking yard. The tiny building on the right is the 'luxurious' flush toilet block and the main building is the one that tourists can hear the harp being played.

The Pay Office is still there and was part of the Slates to the Sea exhibition which is now closed. Its near here that the line of waggons and one of the electric locos is on 'display' (pending being loaded into a skip?!)

I thought at first this was the classic shot of payday 1890, but it isn't, though it was probably taken on the same occasion. Yes, it's floor 2, with the highlighted roofs on floor 3 in the background and the chimney of the floor 5 Robey winder in the upper background.

The map is the territory - especially in chain scale.

Most of the old photo's of Llechwedd were taken in 1894 by Mr Burrows. That doesnt look like a Burrows photo though does it?

Could someone make an approach to Llechwedd to see if they might part with either/both of those before they rot away to nothing?

It might have to be an official approach from some sort of heritage body, as I doubt the AditNow Quarry Locomotive Preservation Society would have any chance of success...

Instruction to Vanoord:- Find nearest wall (preferably slate of course) bang head hard against it 50 times. That is an easier project to achieve! Certain persons (who have to remain nameless I am afraid) have been trying to purchase the locos and wagons in the Maen Offeren Mill. Several times a deal has nearly been reached, only for RHD to step in and scupper it.

Well you would have thought they would have at least given the locos a coat of old engine oil as that can be obtained for free. They would not have to spend a penny.
Lack of interest and ability is quite promenent I say.

Ah, but at least they have now put a wooden fence around Eclipse to protect it!

There really is something wrong with the place now- good proof is the number of people who feel exhasperated just by the mention of the word "Llechwedd". WHY is (the sad remains of) Eclipse now fenced in???

Doubtless to top any one cutting themselves on the sharp rusty metal edges and sueing them!

Well if they preserved the locomotives and stopped them getting rusty.......

......there wouldn't be any sharp rusty metal edges to get cut on and so no onw could then sue.

Wow, you're clever, you should be Llecwedd's manager!

I somehow don't think it is the manager (of which I believe there are two anyway, one for QT and one for the quarry) that needs replacing!
