Wind?
If it's a extremely windy day, keep to the inclines... try not to stand at the very top of some of the sincs.. + the sincs are sometimes falling in on themselvs. As far as I know no-ones ever been removed there. I think there's an enormous fence somewhere near Twyll Mawr though, so presumably that's the last boundary.

I have absolutely no idea what they are on about in the past few post's, although I expect I would if there was a diagram. But here is where I took the man of dinorwic's picture during big bash.http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=53.123775&lon=-4.097353&z=18.3&r=316&src=msl  Speaking of which, simon. Can I have it back now? 😉

That is the complete incline to which I referred. The incomplete incline is visible to the right of that one in the same shot.

Back in 1985 or 86 we had permission to be in Dinorwic to recover some of the wagons and other items for preservation. We even had the keys to the place. We clooected stuff from all over the quarry either almost directly by road or by bring items down C4 and C5 inclines. We gathered all of it together on a flat area near bottom right of quarry (possibly C1T level, I forget now). On one occasion we parked a car there (Vauxhaul Cavalier Mk 1) having parked, with handbrake applied, we opened the driver and front passenger car doors, at that point the car started moving forward because the wind was so strong it was over coming the hand brake! The driver had to put on handbrake extra hard AND put it in gear. It was on perfectly level ground.

We had a good time those few times. Bombing up and down the quarry roads in Land Rovers etc.

A photograph and article on our exploits appeared in the CEGB staff newspaper.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
