AS of tonight the drumhouse has completely gone, the hardware is completely smashed with a digger.
Roofing slate is being stripped of the workshop building and they are ripping the buildings to bits and pulling out scrap

Have you been and had a look Jagman?

I have P.M'ed Grahami, just in case nobody else has.

Ok! lets put our money where our mouth is.

Who (if local) would be prepared to blockade Llechwedd's entrance with cars Friday morning and maybe hand out leaflets or something?

It would certainly get some publicity.

Hi Everyone

Yes thanks - Miles emailed my main email address on Monday. I've been watching events from here. Appalling news, but sadly just a continuation of what's been going on at llechwedd for some years now. The loss of the main floor 5 mills some time ago was an appalling act of vandalism, parts of the mills dating back to the 1870's. The whole surface of the site has been ravaged in recent years so that it would be very difficult for a survey now to record properly what had been before. llechwedd have always been very closemouthed about their records, only a tiny fraction getting to the Archives Office at Dolgellau in the past. I can only hope that what historical documents still remain are going to be passed on to the archives in due course, but given this behaviour......

I've passed on some data regarding the Inclen Bon/Robey Winder which I've culled from llechwedd's own publications and the archives on to John Crosskey.

If anyone wants a read of my notes, drop me an email, preferably via my main email at [email protected]

In passing, it's worrying when one gets referred to as "legendary" !

Keep the info coming - and hopefully more photos etc. of the incline will emerge.

Graham

Took over 100 photos up there last night. The incline head and all it's machinery (compressors etc) have been totally destoryed, I've put some pics on www.mine-explorer.co.uk

The mill (workshop - yes, that's probably more accurate) is being taken apart, they are starting with the roofs as the old slate tiles are obviously going to be sold.

The workshop still contains a number of big cast iron machines, overhead-belt driven, such a piller-drill, lathes, sawing machines etc. One of these has been pulled through a wall and is sitting on the grass waiting for the scrap men. The rest will no doubt go in the next day or two.

The workshop contains a massive furnace too, no doubt that'll be gone before the week is out.

Have you had any news from the Buildings Preservation Officer at Caernarfon or from Dolgellau John?

Would somewhere to put before/after photographs help? I can create an album under Llechwedd if there is a need.

I've got 134 photos from last night, actually a number of them are not public-worthy. Unfortinately I'm against a heck of a deadline today with work so can't upload them anywhere. I could probably FTP them up to some space tho.

I am trying to contact them again now.

Dolgellau = no reply

BPO Caernarfon = engaged tone

Sent to updates via email to C&DH reporter this morning. Shem Graham I's info seems to be taking the scenic route to me - I have e-mailed him a few minutes ago to his main e-mail asking if he could send direct to mine.

I'm not local unfortunately.
Just be a bit weary about blocking the entrance, you could be flouting laws and end up in a spot of bother. The handing out of 'information' leaflets is not a problem though, as long as you stand on the public side of the entrance.
This thread is wide open to the public ........... 😉

Yeah? Will give them time to worry about what's coming then!

Latest update

Still unable to speak to person at Dolgellau
BPO at Caernarfon - I have updated him regarding the latest demolition and destruction by digger of machinery. Also removal of slates and dragging machine through wall.
He advised me that fella at Dolgellau went up there yesterday afternoon hadn't heard yet what result was. The planning enforcment officer is "in" this morning they are going to consult with him. They have checked already and they are not listed buildings. I gave him the URL of the Llechwedd page on M Exp. As he asked if I had photos.

Police wouldn't want to know if it was done on private land. Only if blocking the entrance ON the public highway. Mind you RHD is (or was) a JP so he might have influencial friends!

Just received this e-mail from C&DH

"Council asking their officers about situation, and quarry have so far laughed it off, saying they are a private concern and Hefin Davies is in a board meeting this morning. Receptionist said "others have contacted us about this".

A further update!

This is getting hectic!

Have got hold of GCC person Dolgellau. He didn't in end go yesterday afternoon, but was just about to go now. He is going to find out what is going on, why they are doing it, and they are probably going to issue a Temporary Building Preservation Order if deemed appropriate! Lets all hope they do, and SOON!

Im not going to give any clues away to the Llechwedd management about laws and things, but there is one that the police would be interested in, even if on private land 😉

I have just noticed mention of "the blockade" on Dark places. I haven't yet worked out how to post on that.

If it is done, any vehicles need to meet elsewhere and then arrive at Llechwedd "enblock"

Could we transfer any discussion on this (in any detail)to a "restricted access" thread please?

Also could someone who knows how to post a similar suggestion about meeting elsewhere on DP please?

Don't worry about DP lot to much, if we can get a list of people willing to do it then we can co-ordinate it out of the public eye. I have to confess that being at the incline a week ago and again last night is enough to nigh on reduce a grown man to tears.
Sadly anything we do now will not put back what has been destroyed this week, we may be able to prevent further destruction though (Llechwedd and up the hill)
Barney, would you be so kind as to PM me regarding the other matter that the Police would be interested in? It may be an avenue worthy of consideration.
I would be rather happy to see Greaves management crucified at the moment (although we do need to consider other things)

When I saw that photo that was taken last night it was so sad to see. Such a beutiful piece of engineering deliberately smashed.
