Hey guys,
I live locally and love exploring around the buildings and dressing sheds of Mt Wellington, but was just wondering what the best surface portal was (not a shaft preferably!) into the workings. I have seen the collapse in the main adit, is there any good route around it?
Cheers guys!

It is not the "done thing" to directly ask for directions on an open forum.
Tell people more about yourself and they might pass information on to you. 😉

Especially when the owners of the mine workings view this site and they would remind all those reading that there is no authorised access except those authorised by the owners of the mineral rights.
If it can't be grown it has to be mined.

Yeah sorry about that, I wasn't quite sure how to ask myself!
I'm still in college, love cycling around the area, and have recently found out that that workings of the mine are open and accessible, and find it fascinating to think I've been in the area so much and not even knew! History of the site is also fascinating, seeing as it open just before the crash of tin.
I live in an area thats overflowing (literally) with adits, and have been exploring them as long as I can remember. I'm not currently part of a club, but I would love to join if I ever get the chance ??
I see what you mean, and I respect the owners and their wish not to have sensitive info voiced about their site... I was just curious, but I understand now.
Just out of interest, does the shaft at the bottom of the valley, next to the cycle trail (the one with the square concrete surround, about 30ft deep before its flooded) connect up with the mt wellington workings?
(by the way sorry this is posted several times or something by mistake, new here and all :))

Ben, heres a bit of background reading for you on Wellington, they were working it (in a small way) back in the 30's:
http://www.pdmhs.com/PDFs/ScannedBulletinArticles/Bulletin%2014-4%20-%20Mount%20Wellington%20Mine,%20Gwennap,%20Cornwall.pdf
Roy Morton is on here now and again, he's the one to talk to if you are thinking of a visit, he has an excellent 'day to day' history of the mine on PDF written by the Electrical Engineer that he kindly passed on to me, cant find the file right now though!

Be seriously careful in Mount Wellington, it genuinely has low oxygen in some parts.

Go on to Facebook and check out Cornish explorers, they are arranging a trip there shortly.

Thanks somersetminer! That pdf is a really fascinating read, interesting to here it is one of the 60 mines which were served by the great county adit.
Roy got in touch with me (I don't know whether you prompted that, but either way, thanks!) and has offered me to come along to a local group meet to have a chat and see what's going on, should be really interesting!

@tomh Yeah I've heard about mt wellingtons problem with bad air (and possibly black damp?), I'll certainly be waiting for the chance to go with a group to crop up! I've actually heard about cornish explorers before, and I will be at a group meeting this thursday with the Lanner group, so should be able to speak to them then possibly. Cheers!
