It is the junction of Eastern Lane with Enys Road just before the Tehidy road post office ...

Nothing marked on Hamilton Jenkins maps, must be old!
Gustavus mine maybe??

BBC suggests not a shaft?

After a further inspection the consensus is that it is a shaft...

I was drilling up the road and noticed it was on the move and snapped a pic. The house next door has a circular collapse structure which is choked with rubbish. I gather it was open.

Anyway, the whole building is buggered and I imagine it will be torn down, fixed and replaced with some quality rabbit hutches.

Good call Roy, AB was on Spotlight and said the same (after you had posted your reply).

I know 2 friends who have houses within 100 yds of this one and they are worried.

I snapped this one on the 15th of January and it looks like things are on the move. They could do with extending the fence perimeter though.

Getting Back to the Tehidy Road/Eastern Lane collapse.
This is the adjoining property and I took these pics in October 2012; the subsidence had occurred at least 3 years before. I was expecting this one to go at some point but it's been stable now for some time.
Google Earth street view includes the hole.

Interesting thing is the house next door was sold via auction about 2 years ago, with the auction pack there was a mining report which bascally suggested minimum work was required to stabilise it - I guess whoever bought it must have realised they had bought a lemon and have never done anything with it. Could be an interesting liability issue for the insurers!

It may have had a report but was not drilled afaik.

From memory, it basically said the three features were old shallow workings and not shafts, that required infilling and the house locally underpinning.

It seems the whole locality could do with underpinning. đŸ˜®

Was it not the case that a few years ago a huge hole appeared in the road directly opposite this house. If I remember correctly the house opposite this one was up for sale and that went at auction as well.

As far as I know there are also three shafts behind Tehidy Post Office.

I live a couple of hundred yards away.

My previous post was of course incorrect, It refers to the bottom of Tehidy road.

Anyone for a bath.
