I have information that my great grandfather WILLIAM SAMPSON was manager of the South Liberty mine. I believe he was killed in a rock-fall. Searching the death register I found 2 possible death entries.

Does anyone know about the accident? or about William

William Sampson aged 48, Bailiff at Ashton Vale Colliery was killed in January 1888, he had been Bailiff for 13 years.
He had 15 children and is buried in Long Ashton churchyard.

Report in the Report of the Inspectors of Mines 1888 p. 23, given as at Ashton Vale Colliery (South Liberty was worked by the same company). Killed by fall of roof in an engine plane. Date January 27th 1888.
