I believe it was originally for water level monitoring way back in the 70's. besides, the adit is open all the way to the shaft, and there's enough room to fly seagulls through there :lol:

shakes of head :ohmygod: why would anyone have any issue with a few enthusiasts poking around any old mines ? let alone potentially risk killing people because they dont like folks poking about .

Similar happened to us in a two mile long rail tunnel many years ago, kids having a laugh by setting fire to a pile of tyres at far portal.
Don't suppose they thought about possible consequences!
