HI all ,After passing this hole ,literally hundreds of times ,I thought I would have a closer look, The opening in question is on the United Downs to Bissoe cycle trail ,Just above the cycle hire buisiness. Inside its more the usual adit shaped and runs in the direction of the remains of Nangiles Engine House Any experts out there ?

Nangiles drained out of the Nangiles adit, as well as Bread and Cheese adit. Wheal Widden (on the hill by new jane) drained out of nangiles as well. West Jane and some of Wheal Baddon drained out through West Jane adit (as well as Old Wheal Jane). The only possible tunnels between Nangiles adit are relating to a little set of workings by "Little Bread and Cheese shaft" which is on an obscure plan somewhere, or one of the Wheal Baddon/Bassett Graze adits. Even though the area is very well mapped, that bit isn't.

Get in there and see what you find.

I gather that the West Jane adit is actually turned off which has caused the water to back up in the shafts below the tailings dam. Since it isn't coming out here, it shows the 2 sets of workings are unrelated (or choked)

If my memory serves me right:

Heading from Bissoe to Twelvheads there was an opening partway up the bank on the right hand side, I don't think it was a drainage adit as the opening seemed to drop down to either a raise or the back of an old stope, there was a bit of an old timber floor or staging, I found it when I lived at Crosslanes just up from Twelveheads, anyone remember that opening? c 1973

I think I'll have a bog at this on Sunday. I can't say I've ever noticed it, which is sad Because I lived in the area for many years and often walk the dog through there but only from Wh Andrew up to the cycle route totem pole.
Seems I'll have to walk a bit further in future.

My back is giving me to much gip at the moment to get on all fours crawling up it.
I have seen the main nangiles adit, just down by the county adit,
The hole in the picture seem to be to high up the valley,in relation to mine remains to be a mine adit
maybe the contour has changed in recent years?
interesting though!

Is that on the byway?

That looks like a small under bridge on the R&C railway to me.
The cycle track is not on the bed of the railway at this point. It could have been used to carry water under the railway for the calciners that worked here.
