Hi Guys, I was wondering if there was anything in the scorrier area in the wooded sections either side of the main road? I see on the OS map of the area it has "shallow adit" printed up near the factory shop.

Now the foliage is all died back it looks quite interesting on both sides of the road, I have no idea if its private or public land.

If there is anything there I would guess it is connected to Peevor
Exploring the mines of Cornwall and making some bloody good mates on the way!

Treskerby.

Foxes shaft is up from the petrol station and is plugged and the other across the road is plugged as well (even though it doesn't look like it). There is a shaft in that patch of ground (triangle) by the railway bridge over the road. Minecap plugged.

There are few remains in the woods, one shaft below the tank place (choked with rubbish) and one in the woods on the right further up the road, also choked.

There is one shaft in the area which was dropped ages ago and the person experienced some bad air related issues (was lucky to get out). This is common in the Busy/Hallenbeagle/Scorrier area. Shallow adit comes out where the pound shop is....not sure where. Wheal Boys shaft across the field is blocked and you'd possibly be able to get into the shallow adit system from Grambler and St Aubyn. However, shallow adit is not really the word. It's still a fair old depth up there.

It's not the sort of place I'd want to drive a tank around.

I seem to recollect that Grambler was connected to Sparnon? Not absolutely sure. Used to live across the field from grambler, there was a shaft just off the Redruth to St day road just off the turning that leads up to Gramblers engine house, this was back in the late seventies, all the builders (and others) used to dump all their crap down it until it was filled up, It was then covered with soil, about a year later after wet weather some ominous looking cracks appeared arround where the shaft collar was.
I found a kibble in the dumps at Grambler but gave it away years ago.

Yep. I'm confusing it with St Aubyn.

You are right. Grambler did connect to the sparnon adit system.

On the other side of us was Cathederal Mine at Busveal, I knew the owners of the farm there back then, I think Cathederal used to supplement 'druths water supply.

That could explain a few things.

Cathedral is flooded to the top of the shaft. It's also not connected to the county adit.

It being flooded may have something to do with a dam in the adit, which is possible, it's an adit I haven't looked at though. It's in someone's garden somewhere.

Yes, that's correct as far as I can remember it would not have connected to County Adit, I am guessing from vague memory that Cathederals adit must have come out on the Cathederal side of Caharrack on the side of the valley, a lot of the stone from the engine house was used to build a house in the 70's.
The water pipe from the mine to 'druth was still there in the 70's when I lived up there. Also from memory when I had my Dines books it wasn't a very large operation in context to that area as a whole. I often wondered if the "chute" at Vogue just across frome The Star Inn was a damed up adit, we used to collect water from there for general consumption as did many St Day residents.

I know of another Kibble that was rescued from the dumps there, and now resides at King Edward Mine Museum

When I found mine the only clue on the dump was the handle fixed to the base of the kibble, this was just visible above all the granite and grit, a dig revealed all.

That sounds like an identical story to the one I know of; I wonder if you know the other finder who without mentioning any names, has the initials are RC ? He's a Druth man

Hi Roy, it was a long time ago, I can't remember the name of the bloke I gave the kibble to. The kibble I found was in the dumps of Grambler/St Aubyn alongside where the engine house stands, the dump was just off to the right about 400 yds down from the turning to the engine house from the 'druth to St Day road. There was a house more or less opposite the engine house as far as I can remember, that road comes out more or less opposite Meneer Farm on the Vogue to Busveal Road.
