interesting results but need to repeat. Have got a few more vent circuit smoke cartridges on order.

Did you get any conections proven with your smoke test then?
We are looking to do a water dye test on the winze in the bottom of luna,expecting it will emerge out of one of those choaked cliff portals on the polberro cliff.
can anyone recomend a suitable trace dye??

I can't remember whether the stuff they used at Geevor was Fluorescein or an Azo dye.

Fluorescein is fluroescent under UV light in very low concentrations.

Azo dyes have a very specific absorption and are thus detectable in nano amounts..... think heating oil and how VOSA catch people using them not for heating. You can detect the stuff in really weeny amounts.....although you will need a visible light spectrophotometer.

I'd probably go for fluorescein as it looks easy to make, so it's probably cheap and you could get a UV laser pen to shine through likely areas where it may be. Azo dyes are probably something you'd need a lot of and it would also probably make you the same colour as them.

thanks for that, where do i get some ?and i guess it would run out on to the fore shore if done at low tide then mix with sea water.
would this cause sandal wearers to have a mental break down???

You could mention that it's an organic dye (made from synthetic organic chemicals) :D

As far as I know it's not going to ****** up anything more than minewater.....however, it may react with mine water and form some odd metal complexes.....

(probably not though)

Re the plans, do you mean original mine plans or recent surveys? There were a number of surveys done of the adit leading into Turnavore & Friendly, including one done by South Crofty (Alan Buckley I think was one of the surveyors) for South West Water. I don't think they correctly identified Turnavore Shaft in the area of big now collapsed stopes. Somewhere I've got a copy drawn on lots of bits of paper which shows some of the more obscure side bits. At some stage would like to get that drawn up properly, but finding the time at the moment measn it won't happen for a while.

For water tracing, the other commonly used dye is Rhodamine B which is pink if you prefer that colour. Don't know where you get it but either are used by water companies.

I have a few hand drawn plans of polberro but we are trying to identify if or where luna connects through to other workings, there is a noticable draught being drawn into luna at the back of the workings which would suggest a connection lower down to the sea but its being drawn through a pile of backfill that needs clearing or bypassing somehow, county record have some polberro plans so might have to pop down there

Interesting. I have heard a tale from someone who was "in there" for SWW who mentioned "big flat stopes" which might have caused problems in future. IIRC, these were considered for underground water storage....

Is it these which have come down and if so, was there anything much behind them/above them?

A primrose shaft trip is on the cards at some point.

If its anything like luna the stopes are just big voids, not long slots so when they do come down there would be a noticeable dent in the surface
