I've got some shaft depths for Wheal Jane No2 Shaft of 366m and Clemows Shaft as either 234m or 516m.

Could anyone confirm the final depths of these shafts and inparticularly No2 shaft?

I can't confirm any detail, but I worked on the re-opening of Wheal Jane by Carnon Consolidated in 1980.

At that time No2 Shaft went to 11 level, which would have been about 1100 feet. The shaft extended down to a sump below 11 level. That ties in well with your figure of 366m.

No2 Shaft was going to be deepened, but I left shortly before any work started.

Clemow's Shaft, the skip shaft, I think was already down to 15 level. Say that's about 1500 feet, which also ties in with your figure of 516m.

Can't remember if any deepening was planned for Clemow's shaft at that time.

Hope this is helpful.

The following figures are taken from our official wheal jane plan collection.

No2 shaft is 367.37m from collar to sump.
Clemows is 517.67m from collar to sump.
If it can't be grown it has to be mined.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I had the depth of 516m for Clemows taken from the abandonment plans but I had also read somewhere else that had the other depth

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
