In 1909, L.C. Ball of the Queensland Geological Survey visited Dolcoath and wrote up his visit for the Queensland Govt. Mining Journal. It's a useful summary and also contains a picture of William's shaft headframe taken by Ball himself. I have a digital copy (not great quality) and I'm guessing that the article hasn't been too widely circulated and may be of interest to some of the Cornish enthusiasts. I'm happy to email a copy (of the journal, all 12Mb of it) to anyone that wants it. PM me your email.
Cheers

Rather than trouble you for all 12Mb, could you let us know if this is a highly technical article (which would be interesting for those understand the eqpt of the day) or a general description of all parts of the mine in 1909 ? If you wish you could publish an extract on the Adit now document database to give us all an idea. Many thanks for letting us all know about this

G'day Dolcoathguy,

Good thinking. The Dolcoath article is only 3.5 pages and a fraction of the whole journal. I've clipped out those pages as individual pdfs but can't put them back into a single pdf so I've uploaded them into the Dolcoath document library individually.

A footnote says it's the first of several articles - more as they come to hand and as I work my way through the journals.

All the best

Easier said than done. In a bandwidth and HDD storage disaster (javascript:emoticon(':curse:') - sorry Simon) I've ended up with 4 separate pdf documents which are almost as large as the original complete volume. But they're on the site for those that want to take a look.

Can anyone suggest a better way of stripping several pages out of a pdf document. Obviously copyng them one at a time from the document via Photoshop is not a viable way to go. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Cheers

Thanks Newstuff,
That certainly solved the immediate problem. I'm still unsure why the single file is so big. I've tried winding back the quality but they become illegible very quickly.
I'll delete the originals and upload all of Ball's articles I've found so far - a range of subjects - something for everyone.
Happy Xmas !
