Despite there being a long established access procedure for these mines, they continue to suffer break ins, removal of atrtifacts, and all sorts of inappropriate equipment being left in. Recently the lock was cut off within a week of a new one being put on, which it is rumoured coincides with a posting going up on a website called 28 Days Later about a trip in there. There have also been articles appearing on the web really promoting Because of the great importance of part of the mine as a bat site access must be restricted, but as far as I am aware no request for access to responsible groups have been refused provided they are at a suitable time of the year. The police are also keeping an eye on the site from time to time.
It is now likely that cameras will be installed somewhere on the site, for monitoring purposes, which will mean at least anyone breaking in in future will be recorded doing so!

Most things certain 28Days members steal usually end up on Ebay. :curse:

They should give them an island to explore, preferably one of those lumps of rock in mid Pacific

What sort of inappropriate equipment are you talking about Ali?

I've seen a load of Barbies in Wheal East and a whole load of porn in Wheal Fortune.

I think there was some of that in a surface working nearby, not what I was thinking about but it's probably just as good as some of the bits of string some people have left in there on climbs!

The orange stuff is particularly interesting. Once piece is baffling as it leads up some stoping which you would have had to have been mad to climb. Nigh on impossible.

My superduper 12mm marlow black resides in the entrance as I am more exploring-ahead-of-rope-shenanigins and as I couldn't be bothered to go and de rig it. I left it there. It is nice to see that it has been left. It's a good strong piece of rope. I don't mind freeclimbing up, but I'd rather come down on a rope.

That rope has now been removed (I had been told it belonged to someone else, now deceased). It should be easy enough for anyone with the necessary skills to be able to protect themselves on that climb back down & not leave anything after their trip.

Better still.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
